On Monday, we talked about Mardi Gras, what it means, the religious significance, and different Mardi Gras traditions (such as masks, king cakes, parades!). We tried on some of Ms. Julie's Mardi Gras Masks and made our own during Centers! We had Mardi Gras beads and doubloons in a Sensory Center!
We started our new jobs!
We practiced writing our names and had Music with Ms. Kathleen!
We enjoyed all of our centers, and we even had some new activities out: Geoboards, Letter Sound Sort (with this month's letters-H, D, L!).
Chester had a relaxing weekend with one of our friends! He even sat for his portrait! Such a lucky raccoon!
On Tuesday, we celebrated Mardi Gras! We dot-painted King Cakes and Fleur de Lis pictures in Mardi Gras colors (purple, green and gold) during Table Time. We tried on the masks we had made on Monday at Art Center, and we had a King Cake Party at snack time. We read a story called Timothy Hubble and the King Cake Party. We learned that whoever finds the baby Jesus in their piece of King Cake gets to wear a crown and is King or Queen for the day AND has to bring the king cake to the next king cake party! Mrs. Horton found the baby Jesus in HER piece of cake and got to wear the crown!
During Center Time, we made toothbrushing charts that we could bring home and color in to show we are brushing our teeth twice a day! We also started cutting small pieces of scrapbook paper for our March Calendars (shamrocks!) which will go home on Monday!
Center Time was fun, as usual!
Our ladybugs are ALMOST ready to emerge from their pupae! So exciting!
On Wednesday, we practiced writing our names at Table Time, we worked on our March Shamrock Calendars!
We enjoyed all of our Centers!
REAL Dental Xrays and (pretend) glow in the dark "teeth" at the light table!
Writing the Alphabet on a dry erase board!
These friends made a dinosaur hotel! The hotel had different rooms for different types or dinosaurs which were sorted according to their type and placed in the corresponding room! Love it!
We talked about foods that were good for your teeth and that everyone should brush twice a day!
We celebrated birthdays!
We had a visit from a dental hygienist!
We played a fun game called Crocodile Dentist (which practices fine motor skills!) The kids took turns "pulling out" the crocodile's teeth and tried not to pull the one that would clamp down the crocodile's mouth! So much fun!
During Center Time, we painted with toothbrushes at the easel! We turned a yellow tooth shiny and white! We practiced brushing and flossing with shaving cream and yarn on some plastic bottle teeth! We continued to enjoy the light table with real dental X-rays and pretend teeth!
Other Center Fun!
Twins!
We have ladybugs!!!!
Friday, we had our painting project with our special guest: artist/parent Jen Nolan (see separate blogpost!). We also had fun during Centers, read the book Dinosaur Train, and had fun outside on the swings!!
Phew! What a busy week! Looking forward to some March fun!
~Ms. Julie
