Special Guest: Artist/Parent Jen Nolan!

We had a VERY special guest come to our Class on Friday!  Artist/Parent, Jen Nolan spent the morning with us!  She did a painting project with the kids!  They each painted a llama that she had sketched on canvas!  She explained to them how to mix colors on their own paint palettes, and she gave them step by step directions on how to complete their paintings!

The kids had a great time and did a wonderful job on their llamas!  Thank you so much for coming in and sharing your talents with us, Ms. Jen!  We appreciate it so much!

Donuts with Dad/Week of February 18th!

We had another great week in Ms. Julie and Mrs. Horton's Pre-K 4s Class!  We would like to thank all of the Dads (and other family members!) who came to our Donuts With Dad Celebration!  We had so much fun eating donuts, drinking juice, and showing our Dad's around the classroom!  The Dads enjoyed looking at the ladybug larva in our Ladybug Land and got to see that many of them have entered the pupa stage!  So exciting!  They even got to listen to us sing and dance to our two favorite dinosaur songs from this week:  We Are the Dinosaurs by The Laurie Berkner Band, and Dinosaurs (Hear Them Roar!) by Shawn Brown.

We ARE nuts about you, DAD!  Thank you so much for sharing this special morning with us!

We read the story Froggy's Day With Dad!

Earlier in the week, we learned about the letter Dd!  We talked about how to form the Letter Dd and the sound it makes!  At Table Time on Tuesday, we cut out lowercase d's that we would use during Centers to make our dinosaur ds!  We practiced cutting curvy lines and zig zag lines to make these dinosaurs!  We finished our dinosaur d's at Center Time.

We started our new jobs!

We had our Big Event Dd at Circle Time!  Each child got to d-d-dig for a d-d-dinosaur in REAL d-d-dirt, d-d-dust it off with a d-d-duster, put it in a d-d-dump truck, and then get a d-d-donut hole to eat from a (stuffed!) d-d-dog!

We had new Dd Centers/Activites in the classroom, too!  We had Dinosaurs and dinosaur plastic eggs in the Playdough Center, Dolls, dominoes, and a dinosaur eraser sort.  We had Dinosaurs in the Blocks Center and in the Sensory Table, too!

We listened to two Dinosaur Songs:  We are the Dinosaurs and Dinosaurs (Hear them Roar!).  We learned that Dinosaurs are Extinct and what that means and some possible reasons why:  asteroid activity, an Ice Age, or Volcanic Activity, (climate and geological changes!).  We learned the words Paleontologist, Carnivore, Herbivore, and Omnivore and talked about what each of those terms means.  We learned more about a few specific dinosaurs:  Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops and Stegosaurus and talked about what they ate (if they were herbivores or carnivores!), and how they protected themselves.

We had a new ladybug counting game out to go along with our ladybug science activity!  This week we watched the larvae enter the pupa stage!  This was SO exciting for the kids to see!

Wednesday at Table Time, we worked on strengthening fine motor muscles and letter formation by putting d-d-dot stickers on the Letter Dd.  We read the book:  Froggy Goes to the Doctor and made our very own Doctor Bags at Center Time!  We continued to enjoy all of our Dd Centers and our Ladybug Land in Science Center!

At our second Circle Time on Wednesday, the Alphabet Bag was returned and several items that start with the Letter Dd were shared:  2 dinosaurs, a dog, and a duck!  We read the book from the Alphabet Bag, Detective Dog and the Disappearing Doughnuts, and thought of words that start with the Letter Dd to write on our pad!  We also read the book, Pooh Gets a Checkup!

On Thursday, we colored D pictures at Table Time that we would use during Centers to complete the Dd page in our Journals.  We worked on the final part of our gifts for our dads:  silly ties!

We had so much fun in all of our Centers AND watching our ladybug larvae turn in to pupa and attach themselves to the walls of the ladybug land!

We had such a great week!  Thank you for all you do!
