Week of January 27th!

It was another exciting week in the Pre-K 4s at WIPP with Ms. Julie and Mrs. Horton!

Monday was BLUE Day!  We started off the day with some Table Time activities:  Name Practice and other Table Games, followed by Music Class with Ms. Kathleen!

Ms. Katlheen told us a little bit about Groundhog Day!  We talked about Groundhog Day more later in the week!

We started our new weekly jobs!

We have been using different types of voices to read/count during Calendar/Question of the Day:  robot, old lady, baby voice...the kids get to choose!  It switches it up and is so much fun!

At Circle Time, we took turns standing up and sharing everything we were wearing that was blue with the class!  We tallied up and counted all of the blue items once everyone had their turn!

One of our special activities for Blue Day was baking our own Blueberry Muffins that we would eat at Snack Time!  We took a walk to the Kitchen in Fellowship Hall to preheat the oven and show the kids where the muffins would bake and then returned to the classroom to mix the batter!  EVERYONE helped add the ingredients and stir the batter!  So much fun!

Another special activity for Blue Day was painting at the Easel!  We were able to mix blue paint with white paint to make a pretty shade of light blue!

We also practiced writing letters in blue sand!

At our second Circle Time, we read the story, If you Give a Moose a Muffin.

By snack time, the blueberry muffins were ready!  They were warm and delicious!

We enjoyed playing on some NEW equipment on our new playground during outside time!

On Tuesday morning, we started off with Table Time activities and Writing Center Fun!

At Circle Time, we read a story called "Mouse Paint", which is about 3 white mice who do some (unintentional!) color mixing with the primary colors: red, blue, and yellow!  We talked about primary colors and the secondary colors that are formed when primary colors are mixed!

We then learned about an artist, Piet Mondrian, who painted a series of paintings using black lines to form squares and rectangles, colored in the shapes he formed with ONLY primary colors, or left them white.  The paintings are called Composition in Red, Blue and Yellow.  We looked at examples of Mondrian's work and started to work on our own version of the painting!  Today, we used black electrical tape for the black lines, and tomorrow, we will paint each shape formed with primary colors or leave the shape formed white. The kids told me where to put the tape, and helped me cut it!  They are all unique!  Wait until you see the finished products...they are gorgeous!

We also celebrated a birthday on Tuesday!  We had special Frozen 2 cupcakes AND a piñata!!!

On Wednesday, we started our day with Spanish with Ms. Emily!  She taught us how to say what the weather is like outside in Spanish with the help of some weather bear puppets!  Hace frio!

At Center Time, we painted our Mondrian-inspired paintings!  We used the primary colors red, yellow, blue, or left the spaces white.

We also cut strips of Valentine's Day scrapbook paper that we will use to make our February Calendars on Thursday.  Great fine motor practice while practicing our scissor skills!

During Center Time, we used some new STEM manipulatives to make all sorts of creations!  We enjoyed all of or centers as usual!

Chester came back to class today, and we read about some of his adventures with one of our friends!

More playground fun on the WIPP version a rock climbing wall!

Thursday, Table Time, we started working on our Groundhog Day Craft by cutting out our little groundhog's head!  At Circle Time, we read a book called The Day It Rained Hearts.  At Center Time, we made our February Calendars.  We had more Center and Snack Time Fun (sorting our goldfish!).

Friday at Table Time, we made our Groundhog Day Craft!  We cut grass and colored in our Groundhog's head!  The groundhog was attached to a popsicle stick, so on February 2nd, he can come out of his hole and see if he sees his shadow!  The kids had so much fun learning about Groundhog Day as well as making and playing with these!

We read the story "Go To Sleep, Groundhog"  at Circle Time!  We learned that if the groundhog sees his shadow, he will go back into his burrow and there will be 6 more weeks of Winter.  If he doesn't see his shadow, he will stay outside and Spring will be just around the corner!

At Center Time, we worked on a special surprise for our parents for Valentine's Day!  We also had a Reading Center where we read a Scholastic Weekly Reader about groundhogs and Groundhog Day!  We used "looking eyes" on our fingers to follow along!

We had another great week and are looking forward to tons of February Fun!

~Ms. Julie
