First Week of March!

We've had another great week in Ms. Julie and Mrs. Horton's Pre-K 4s Class!

We started the week by celebrating all things Dr. Seuss!

On Monday at Table Time, we cut out our Cat in the Hat hats that we would paint during Center Time! We painted every other stripe RED!

Ms. Julie read 'The Cat in the Hat' by Dr. Seuss to us at Circle Time
(and wore a Cat in the Hat hat, too!)

We had some new Centers out for March:  St. Patrick's and Pirate Themed!  We will be working on the Letters X, R, and K this month and the Centers reflect these letters!

Rainbow Rice in our Sensory Table with Cauldrons, Gold and Pirates, too!

Special Pirate Dress Up Clothes in our Pretend Play Center (and some Gold Coins, too, for treasure!)

A Pirate Ship in our Blocks Center!

REAL X-Rays at both of our Light Tables!

We started our new weekly jobs!

Our llama paintings are hanging on our Art Wall!  Thanks again, Ms. Jen!

On Tuesday, we practiced writing our Names at Table Time when we first came in!

We continue to enjoy all of our St. Patrick's Day and Pirate Fun Centers!

Playdough with Shamrocks, gold coins and rainbow beads!

We LOVE watching our ladybugs!  They are almost all out of the Pupa Stage and are ladybugs now!

Table Game Fun! (A St. Patrick's Day Eraser Sort!)

Writing Center Fun!

The Share Bag was returned and some great items were shared!  We even got to read the book that was shared, "Does a Kangaroo Have a Mother, Too?"  So cute!  Everyone read along with the words!
(It had predictable text!)

We read the Dr. Seuss book, "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" and did a fun fish math activity at Center Time!  We had to sort and count our fish, and then stamp and write (or trace!) the corresponding number!

We had a special One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish Snack:
Blue Jello (for water!) and two Swedish Fish!  Yum!

Our Cat in the Hat hats!

 Cat in the Hat Twins!

We brought in our favorite Dr. Seuss books from home to share with the class!  Ms. Julie read a couple of pages from each book!  We heard SO many rhyming words!

One friend read a couple of pages from her book out loud to the class!

On Wednesday, at Table Time, we cut out the pieces for our very own Tic Tac Toe Game!  We reviewed how to play a game of Tic Tac Toe with the X and O pieces at Circle Time!

We talked about the Letter Xx, the sound(s) it makes and how to write it at Circle Time, too!  We completed the Xx page in our Journals at Centers!

We continued to enjoy ALL of our St. Patrick's/Pirate/March Centers!

Some more friends shared their favorite Dr. Seuss books from home!  Ms. Julie read some pages from each book!

Another friend READ a couple of pages from her book out loud to the class!

We shared our Dr. Seuss Rhyming Bags with the class!

Each child pulled ONE of their items out of their bag, and we tried to guess what the other (rhyming!) item might be!  We guessed some, were stumped with a few, and thought of so many great rhyming words!  Great job, everyone!  (Parents, thanks for your help with this!)

chair/bear

frog/dog

house/mouse

rock/sock

tire/fire, pig/twig, duck/trick

hay/clay

duck/truck

sock/block

bumblebee/key

ball/call

money/honey

Scrunchie/crunchy

We also read, "There's a Wocket in My Pocket", by Dr. Seuss and heard SO many more words that RHYME!

On Thursday, we practiced writing our names at Table Time!

We had our Big Event for the Letter Xx!  We reviewed how to form the letter Xx and the sound it makes.  When our name (with and X on it!) was picked out of the Pirate Bag, we got to tape it on a Treasure Map Mat to see if we could guess the location of the X marks the spot treasure!
After we placed our X, we got two pretzels, turn them into the letter X, and ATE them!  Our friends made the /x/ sound while we each took our turn!  The two friends who were the closest to the X got to take home a gold coin treasure!

(We could wear a pirate hat or hook if we wanted!)

We made our own X Marks the Spot Treasure Maps at Center Time!

We read the book, "Pirates Go To School":

More Pretend Play Center Fun!

On Friday, we worked on our St. Patricks Day Parade 'costumes'!  We made shamrock necklaces and decorated some shamrocks that we will use to make our shamrock crowns!

We had fun in our Pretend Play and Blocks Centers, too!

We are looking forward to some St. Patrick's Day fun next week!

~Ms. Julie
