Week of September 16th!

We had another fun and busy week in the Pre-K 4s with Ms. Julie and Mrs. Horton!

We started our Monday morning with Ms. Kathleen and Music!

We continued learning more about the letter Aa and the sound it makes!  One of our friends brought home the class Alphabet Bag over the weekend and returned it with 3 items that start with the letter Aa from home!  At Circle Time, we read the Aa book that is included in the take-home Alphabet Bag and thought of words that start with A!

(Aa items: alligator, apple, astronauts!)

We practiced our cutting skills by cutting out an uppercase A and then added apple stickers and Apple Jacks.  We had new Aa activities on the tables in the morning and at Center Time!

Animals in the Sensory Table!

Airplanes in the Blocks Center!

Small apples and new red apple, glittery play dough in the Play Dough Center!

Aa activities in the Writing Center!

Everyone LOVED the Alphabots at Table Time in the morning!

And, of course, the Animal Hospital in Pretend Play!

We strengthened the fine motor muscles in our hands by tearing paper strips and making these Torn Paper Apples!

On Tuesday, we read the book, 'Apples for Everyone' and learned the parts of an apple and that when you cut an apple in half, there is a star in the core that contains the seeds!  We made Apple Prints with 3 different kinds of apples and their corresponding paint color and looked for the star in our prints!

On Wednesday, we started our morning with Spanish Class with Ms. Emily; we continued to learn all about apples; we read an apple book; and we completed our first entry about the letter Aa in our new Journals!

Wednesday was a rainy, wet day, so we couldn't go outside.  Instead, we played musical chairs/identify the letter in the classroom!  So much fun!

We celebrated TWO birthdays this week!

On Thursday, we started our Ant Hill Art!  We spread glue on our own Ant Hill, sprinkled sand, and made tunnels with our fingers, just like the ants in our classroom did in their ant mountain!  Once the tunnels dried (on Friday!), we added fingerprint ants with 3 body parts (head, thorax, abdomen!), and googly eyes!  We will add the 6 legs and antenna on Monday when they are dry.  We read a silly book:  I Saw An Ant on the Railroad Track.

We also had a Reading Center on Thursday!  We read two Scholastic Weekly Readers:  one was about apples, the other a book about how to play nicely with our friends!  We used our 'looking eyes' (googly eyes for our fingers!) to point to each page!

We tasted apples on Friday at snack time and graphed our favorite color apple!  The red delicious apple had the most votes, but everyone enjoyed trying all 3 types/colors: green Granny Smith, red delicious and yellow (golden) delicious!  Some friends had never tasted a yellow or green apple before!

On Friday, we had our Big Event for the Letter Ss!  We got to wear a Scarf and Sunglasses; we pulled an item that starts with Ss out of a paper Sack; we Stomped over to the Sensory table filled with Sand and gave the item to a Snake!  When we were done, we got to eat a Skittle!  When each friend had their turn, the rest of the class made the S-S-S-S sound!

We read a Pete the Cat Book about Pete's Magic Sunglasses!

At Centers, we practiced writing the Letter Ss (as well as other letters!) in SHAVING CREAM!!!

We are having so much fun doing our classroom jobs!

We are still loving our playground time!

Phew!  What a week!  I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!  See you Monday!

~Ms. Julie
